Ideas to add Sparkle and Life to a Dull Bathroom
Do you have a boring bathroom?
Maybe it’s time for an update!
There are lots of smaller projects to add color, update lighting, or accessorize that will rev up the look of a bathroom, without spending a lot of money or waiting for a major remodel.
Here are some of our favorite ways to add some sparkle to a bathroom.
Choose a few of these ideas for your own home and plan a weekend project that will yield big results for the time spent.
De-clutter - It’s absolutely free. The best way is to remove everything (yes, everything) from drawers, countertops, and inside the vanity.
Then start with a plan to place often-used items in the most convenient place. See this simple how to organize storage for tips and instructions.

Get Organized! - Review your storage options, then purchase some appropriate storage solutions such as drawer dividers, see-through bins, hooks, trays, and decorative containers for the countertop.
Outfit Closed Storage – Inside a vanity or cupboard is the perfect place to install some of the wonderful storage products available now. Our favorite is a small plastic-coated wire towel bar that we use to hang cleaning cloths and dust rags. You’ll also find clear plastic drawer units, large round turntables, see-thru boxes, and bins of all sorts.
Towel Bars - Two words of advice: add more! Look around for space to install a few extra towel bars… on the end of a cabinet, over a commode, behind or on the back of a door, near a light switch… anywhere that won’t interfere with cabinets or heating vents. Another option is adding the popular hotel-style racks with two or three bars and a shelf in one unit. Use your additional rod space for displaying colorful towels, or assign each member of the family their own bar.
Hooks - Need a place to hang a robe or towel? Look for some beautiful options in hook hardware, then install them where you really need them… behind the door, next to the shower, near the sink.
Furnish! - Larger bathrooms can benefit from an injection of real furniture. Perhaps a small chest, cupboard, or armoire will fit into an empty corner or along an unused wall. Furniture will add both storage and style, and warms up the space.
Floor Me - If your bathroom floor has seen better days, consider either covering it a with large cut-to-fit bathroom rug, peel-and-stick tiles, or even paint!
Organize a Cleaning Kit – Gather some simple cleaning supplies and store them together in a handled tote under a sink or in an upper cupboard. Get smaller size spray bottles if space is an issue. Install child-proof latches if you have small children in the home.
